A Job Finally-- 9th Grade English

Of course I got the job for which I interviewed. I'll be teaching 9th grade English at a 9th grade only campus; the high school is down the street. Apparently the school was only built about five years ago so it is still fairly new. As I wrote previously, they cluster students in learning teams, so I will work with a collaborative of teachers are teaching the same students as me and we'll do planning together to some degree. Also, it's a career path focused school, meaning that students choose career paths:
* Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources;
* Arts, A/V Technology & Communication;
* Business, Management & Administration, Finance, Marketing, Sales & Service; Health Science;
* Education & Training, Human Services, Government & Public Administration, Hospitality & Tourism;
* Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics, Architecture & Construction, Transportation, Distribution & Logistics, Information;
* Law, Public Safety & Security

The 06 listed demographics say there were 930 freshmen, 98% Hispanic, 10% migrant, 84% "economic disadvantaged," 65% "at risk."

So I will have a lovely 50 minute commute each morning, starting Wed with my new teacher orientation. But maybe that will give me time to wake up (never been a morning person), caffeinate, internalize my lesson plan, learn Spanish by cd, catch up on my NPR, etc. At least I have friends who live half-way so I could always stop by for dinner on my way home. At this point, I just can't think about moving again. Plus, last night my flatmate Hillari & I went in the pool, under the stars, with the palm trees blowing in the wind; it seemed like it would be worth the drive for that little treat.
