I broke down and found a place to live. Like John Mayer's song, I want to "have myself a home life." It's important to me to have a sense of home, a place to just be, to feel secure and comforted and restored. Sleeping on an air mattress, living from a suitcase, keeping a diet of pre-packaged, gas station purchased, or restaurant food, it just doesn't leave me feeling like I have a life of my own.So, although I don't yet have a placement, I decided to get an apartment with another 08 corps member. We should be able to move in on Wednesday. We were really hoping to get in there this weekend but no luck.
Plus, being in the largest city will be nice for meeting people and going out, in what little spare time I expect to have. The best part about the complex is there is a pool and a small workout room with some trendmills. I figured that at least I won't give myself the excuse of not working out because of gym fees or the hassle of getting to the gym.The complex is in McAllen, which I reasoned, is central in the mid-Valley so I could commute in either direction. Also there are other TFA'ers that live there so we can have a little community. Plus the thought of coming home and sitting by a pool was stress-relieving. It's a bit posh for me but it seemed like a good option. A little pricey too but I just don't want to spend the time shopping around and have all that stress. This year has been stressful enough, I just want something simple and quick. And they allow cats!Job news: I was going to have an interview for an 8th grade Language Arts position in Mercedes, which would be a 25-30 min drive (one-way) each day from McAllen :( Oh well. But the district has to do some paperwork before I can have the interview and my exec. director said he'll still be looking for placements for me in the meantime. We'll see what happens...
