Rio Grande City??

I had my first interview last week! For a middle school in Rio Grande City, possibly to teach 7th grade writing, which is right up my alley.

Rio Grande City is on the west end of the Rio Grande Valley. http://www.cityofrgc.com/
Today in Bend it's 59'; in Rio Grande City it's 91' -- whoa.
Population around 13,000
It was founded in 1848 and later used as a steamboat port, so I guess it has some old, historic buildings of note. And it looks like it's right on the U.S.-Mexico border, right on the Rio Grande River.

There are some decent pictures of the town on these sites:

(though he makes it look like a bit of a deserted place)

I was hoping to be more on the eastern end of the valley (like McAllen, or Brownsville, which are larger -- 100,000 pop, closer to the Gulf and more tropical than "hilly, brush country"). Though some of the pictures from the area that I've seen remind me of Central & Eastern Oregon, so that would be familiar.

I have to accept the first job I'm offered since I've agreed that I'm dedicating myself to the success of all the children that Teach For America serves, and especially those in the RGV. Additionally, I did identify with the principal's message that's on the school's website. He wrote that he wants the middle school to become one of the top middle schools in the state, which is exciting and ambitious and suggests a really striving environment. Since the school is in its first year, I'm thinking maybe it will be a place open to innovation and a place for me to help create traditions of excellence.

As of now, I only know that the interview went well and that the principal, assistant principal, and dean of instruction are recommending me to the school board for hire. We shall see...
